DREW FUNK

Drew Funk is a NASM-Certified Personal Trainer, fitness professional, and business owner with a passion for helping athletes build strength, confidence, discipline, and healthy habits that extend beyond the gym. He owns and operates his own gym and personal training company in the DMV area, where he works with clients to help them reach their individual fitness and performance goals.

Drew earned his bachelor’s degree in Sport and Recreation Management from James Madison University. During his time at JMU, he gained valuable experience working with collegiate athletics as a student manager for both the university’s baseball and football programs.

Following graduation, Drew joined the University of Maryland’s M Club in 2022 as an Alumni Engagement Intern and was promoted to Letterwinner Engagement Coordinator in 2023, working closely with Maryland Athletics and its community of former student-athletes.

Fitness has also played a major role in Drew’s own life. After graduating high school at just 140 pounds, he discovered firsthand how proper training, structure, mentorship, and consistency could transform not only physical strength, but confidence and mindset. That experience ultimately inspired his career in personal training and his commitment to helping others discover their own potential.

Drew also brings a unique understanding of the dance and entertainment industries to Backstage. Growing up in a family with longstanding connections throughout the dance community, he has been exposed to the industry across the country and has worked with one of the nation’s leading hip hop dance conventions. His combination of professional fitness training, athletic experience, and familiarity with the physical demands placed on dancers allows him to bring a valuable perspective to dancer conditioning.

As Backstage Dance Studio’s Conditioning Coach, Drew focuses on helping dancers develop the strength, stability, endurance, mobility, and overall athleticism needed to support their technique, performance, and longevity as dancers .
