OUR HISTORY.
Backstage Dance Studio, located in Columbia, Maryland, was established in 1987 by sisters, Diane Andrews and Mary Harper, who are natives of Detroit, MI. As co-owners and directors, we pride ourselves on demanding and maintaining a high caliber recreational dance program and an award-winning competitive dance program, drawing dancers from all the surrounding counties to include Howard County, Anne Arundel County, Baltimore County, and Carroll County in Maryland. Our success has been achieved by employing a dedicated, highly trained and dynamic core of teachers and front desk staff who encourage and motivate our students, along with bringing in outside professional teachers and choreographers. Our students have gone on to become professional dancers in NYC, Las Vegas and LA, as well as achieving success in theater, television and the NBA and collegiate dance teams. Many have also continued their love for dance by becoming dance teachers and dance studio owners. The accomplishments of our students are our greatest joy, and we are humbled by their trust in us when we see their children and grandchildren in our classrooms today.

At Backstage Dance Studio, it is our mission and commitment to provide quality dance instruction and artistic training of the highest possible caliber. In developing and maintaining a successful dance program, we offer all students a positive learning experience while promoting an atmosphere of excitement and fun. We instill and nurture the self-discipline, self-confidence and creativity required to become proficient in the art of dance. Backstage Dance Studio embraces the opportunities for students and teachers to take master classes and attend conventions and conferences to enhance an increased level of learning and skills. We also provide performance opportunities so that students may participate in the world of dance through community projects, competitions, and annual recitals to showcase their talents. Backstage Dance Studio establishes effective communication channels while exhibiting fairness, understanding, and generosity between management, teachers, students, and their families.
